| UNION STATION STORIES I was visiting Union Station in February of this year and I walked the history exhibit. I was going upstairs--second floor to third floor, I think-- and I noticed that the landing ahead was a small, bare room. There was no one else on the stairs or on the landing except me and my girlfriend who was walking ahead of me. As I was walking through the door that led away from the landing, I had the irresistible urge to turn my head to the left. When I did, I saw what seemed to be a man leaning forward, his arms resting against the banister as he looked down the stairs. This startled me. I stopped and turned around. There was no one there. I asked my girlfriend to come back and see if she sensed anything. She didn't. I had no other sensation except surprise, and as I thought things over I became convinced that I saw nothing except maybe some floaters in my eyes or perhaps some speck of lint on my eyelash. Later via email I asked a Kansas City resident if she had heard about any ghosts at Union Station. She said that her grandfather had worked there--as a porter, I think--and he told her that people had committed suicide there, just by leaning over the balcony rail and falling. |
