Ghosts & Haunts In Missouri
           Robert Koch Hospital Stories

Greetings:
I am trying to find some photos or information on an old "haunted" hospital that we used to drive to in the 80's when I was still in high school.  I drove by the old site this weekend with my sister in law and she was fascinated.  I noticed that the old road has been blocked off and unused for quite some time, and the site seems to be completely overgrown.  It was always a really spooky place, and even after the hospital has apparently been demolished, it still gave me a creepy feeling just being near it. Any information you may have would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You,
K

Hi, My family and I lived on the Koch Hospital grounds from 1977 until 1983. My father was a director of the St. Louis city health department, the house was a "perk" of his job. At the time we lived there the hospital was used as a chronic care facility for the city health department. I don't think our house was the "Christine" house. Our house was to the south of the hospital building at the bottom of the hill, at the end of a road and to the left. I'm guessing that the Christine house was at the top of the hill. It was a one story stone and brick house with a slate roof water tower next to it, to the west. A family lived there, an older man, his wife and a child. He was the maintenance supervisor of the property, he drove the snow plow in the winter. I've walked and explored the whole property, I was a curious kid and was told that as long as I didn't get into any trouble I could go where I wanted. To the west of the hospital buildings and bordering Koch road is a huge, rolling field. Its was littered with chunks of limestone, possibly old head stones. In a column from 5/30/05 in the St. Louis Post Dispatch, Bill McClellan says he's heard that there are bones just beneath the surface of the hospital grounds. Even as a kid, in broad daylight, I sometimes got wigged out walking the property, that someone-is-watching feeling coming from the woods around the hospital. We had two dogs while we lived in the Koch house. One of them was a German Shepard mix. That dog urinated if we put her in the basement and howled until we let her out. It was a bright clean basement but we never went down there, something scary was down there. But it was a great house. There was a stone foundation in the back yard and my mom told me that it was from a really old laundry building from the Civil War era. We have many pictures of the house and the grounds. Its sad that the whole place was leveled about 15 years ago, it was a piece of St. Louis history, maybe its haunted history...
