GHOSTS & HAUNTS IN MISSOURI
RAYTOWN STORIES

There is an abandoned hospital or institution near the intersection of Raytown Road and I-435.  It is located behind the City's Detention Center. My son & I have both been there separately over the years, and have both had unexplainable experiences.  If you decide to check this one out, I'd really like to assist if at all possible.  There's something not right about that place.  Also, I was unable to find any records about the building itself though.

I know that it is not a old hospital, but the old mental institution. The new Correctional institution now sits in front of it and it is slightly up the street from the National Guard. It has bee knocked down recently, although before it was collapsing on it's own. I have also been to this building before it was tore down the rest of the way. It still had a lot of equipment & furniture. It also had papers or documents on the floor. I was unable to stop and read them basically because it was dark and we were trespassing. No weird anything really happened but I will tell you that you get a definite vibe off the building and surrounding area. I myself have not ventured too far past the building but I was told that there is also an abandoned town further back. On the way leaving the building we were temporarily lost in the woods where we found like a watch station maybe. It was about the size a basic bathroom, like a little house big enough for one person to sit in
with a chair. It had two little windows on each side and was surrounded by remainders of something like a bob-wire fence. Also there is a road that you can not get to from the main street it is back in the wooded area behind the building and what looks to be an old fire station. But like I said nothing incredible happened in my experience but I will say
it's creepy. Good luck exploring. Hope this helps you in locating it. For those who know the area, if you are on Blue Ridge cutoff and you have the stadiums behind you when you get to Raytown Road take a right. Drive till you se the 4th gate entrance to the stadium on your right then turn on the road on your left, I can't remember what the name is but if you follow that street you will see the new correctional institution. Behind that are the ruins of the building and further on should be the very small abandoned town.

The Haunted Abandoned building at I-435 and Raytown road was a mental hospital, state funded where I know they sent some pretty messed up people. They closed the place down because of a fire, and the state didn't want to repair it. It was more of a criminal mental institution, because it was surrounded by guard houses and fences w/ barbed wire, it looked more like a prison (I live about 5 minutes away). Not to mention, a current Raytown, MO Correctional facility still exists next to where this building was. They were used in conjunction w/ each other. However, the mental inst. has been torn down, partly because of the fire and because of break-in's and vandalism. I've heard a lot of stories of people I know that have visited here, about "rooms" and "cells" that look completely cleaned, but "locked" even when the place was closed down. I know a lot of the "paranormal activity" people have experienced here are kids, or teenagers there "setting people up", and doing things to people whom were there at the same time they were. Hope this helps!
