| GHOSTS & HAUNTS IN MISSOURI MINTON HOUSE STORIES |
About the Minton House, I read somewhere that it was the original Southeast Missouri Teachers College when it started in 1872, however when I mentioned that to a professor he never heard that. Also the house is not located at the cross streets of North Fountain and North Middle, for this is impossible due to the fact that Middle and Fountain are parallel to each other. It is, in fact, located at the intersection of Washington and Middle, directly across the street is a playground. The Minton house is always for sale, the for sale sign will come down for a month or less and then it is back up, being fascinated with it, I frequently went by it to see if it was still for sale, and also when it wasn't to see how long before the occupants moved out. I saw footage online from Cape area ghost hunters of an orb in a tunnel, so there are in fact tunnels. One goes to the cemetery and one goes to the river, it was used during the Underground Railroad, and also speculated that liqueur was stored, and transported during Prohibition. S Minton House When i was a kid, we were called in one night to watch tv. This was the first time that it has ever happened. My parents saw this house on the news and told me that the owners heard a rapping on the wall of the basement where the tunnel that lead to the river. It's widely known in Cape Giraredeau that there is a set of tunnels under the city from the underground railroad days. My parents wanted to teach me a lesson to make sure i never went in one. From my memory, the nightly news was broadcasting live from the basement as they were tearing down the wall. All they discovered was a really old cave in on the tunnel and a pair of child skeletons that were very old. Nobody was in the tunnel. Dumbstruck, my parents let me go back out to play. I always was freaked out by the place as i had heard a lot of stories of screaming late into the night. The explanation was that it was a slave hospital. Old Lorimer Cemetery, Once a month for a while, i'd visit with my childhood buddy and we'd play "find the baby's crypt" as it seemed to move everytime we went there. It was broken open and overlooking the river. It would move about 20 feet many times. I remember the last time that I was there, it wasn't. There's more stories, but i'm getting freaked out ny remembering them. D Hi I felt the need to write after seeing the blurb on your site. The house is haunted yes, but not by scary spirits. I saw soldiers who watched over me. Yes I heard the screaming of the dead and the shadows walking across the windows. I saw the tunnel in the basement. I never felt scared or the need to leave the house. I saw the marks on the stairs from the boots of the soldiers. You have to remember a large amount of people died in this house, the spirits are there but I never felt any fear from any of them. There are other spots in Cape G that are much more scary to be in like the cemetery down the block from the house and also other houses in the area. One story I was told of how a roof worker was dragged back onto the roof by something no one could see as the house has no guttering he should have fallen to his death, even his co workers do not know how he got back on the roof the day he slipped and started falling. Yes I met this man and he said there is nothing here to fear, people are taking the history out of context. I wonder to this day if the spirit I saw walking across the upstairs window is the same one who saved this mans life. The only thing to be scared of in this house is if you fear it and make your mind believe things are going on that are not. Use any of this info if you like, just let it be known this place is haunted but not a placed to be scared of. S |
