Ghosts & Haunts In Missouri
            Mayfield Cemetery Stories

Mayfield Cemetery is on Federal Government land that was previously part of Ft. Leonard Wood.  It was a significant part of the training area during the Korean War because of the terrain being similar to Korea.  The land was purchased in the 1930’s from the land owners and they all moved to other towns in the area.  The foundations are the remains of their homes.  The Federal Government is responsible for maintaining the cemeteries. Nothing mysterious here.  There are such foundations and cemeteries all over Ft. Leonard Wood.  The Army turned over the area around Mayfield cemetery to the National forest several years ago.

Mayfield Cemetery I haven't uncovered much history on this location.  What I have gathered is that at one point in time there was a small town in that area, and for reasons unknown, they just disappeared.  All that remains of the town are the foundations of the houses.  I believe the people of that town are all buried in the cemetery.  The tombstones are very old.  Most of them are illegible and have crumbled over time.  There is a definite feeling of sadness and despair in this location.  I myself have witnessed strange lights in the cemetery and around the woods, mists coming from inside the cemetery, and obscure shadows standing in the cemetery.  This area is also used as a campground, so don't be surprised if you see someone camping out there.  This is definitely an active site and for all you ghost hunters out there, check this place out.  There is another cemetery called Boulware Cemetery on the way to Mayfield.  I haven't checked it out yet, so feel free to give that location a try as well.

It never fails, every website always forgets about the Waynessville/St. Robert area.  Just off the top of my head I could probably name about 5 places to check out. One in particular is a road my girlfriend and I went down it last night. I could've sworn someone started whisper-in to me. Its pretty creepy. basically to reach it go into Waynessville, then go down 17hwy keep going till u get to the bridge, theres a dirt road right next to the bridge on the right side, thats the road. Once when my girlfriend and I went down it, I swearer I found bones, kinda like finger bones(yes I know sounds crazy).every time we go through there we get this weird feeling like somethings watching us, its just really weird, you'd have to go down the road to see what I mean. Then we got Mayfeild Cemetery, I only been there once but if I wasn't a believer before, I am now, it was one hell of an experience, I plan on going back with cameras and seeing what I can find.

I was kind of disapointed tonight because we tried to make it to mayfield cemetery, but it had been raining alot(this week not tonight), and i think we all know what rain does to unkept dirt roads. So, we made it to the turn to go to mayfield cemetery and about 400 meters down the road there was a HUGE pothole (like taking up more than 3/4 of the road) FILLED with water so we stopped dead in our tracks to turn around using our awesome 79 point turn skills. Before we had a chance to turn around, while we were still debating what we could do, we saw this odd odd foggy misty type substance coming from the gi-mongous pothole. Granted, it was not hot outside, it was not overly cold out side (about 50 degrees), it was not a foggy night anyway. It was just foggy/misty in that one spot COMING from the pothole. At first we were thinking of ways that the mist could've been explainable, like it could've came from our car, but it didn't because the mist stuff would've came from the hood of the car, NOT the ground. I don't know how to explain that. We have decided that after it's all dried up we will try to go again, because it's like only 10 minutes away from our house. Thanks for everything (the directions were right on the mark)!
