| Hart Cemetery Stories Harts Cemetery. I use to hang around this one when I was a kid (20 years ago) and it's very, very tiny. At the most, there were 20-25 graves there (that were marked, anyway) and most were pre-1900 and badly weathered. Nowadays it doesn't even look like a cemetary, and unless one knew what they were looking for they would never see it. It looks like a patch of mowed grass. The old stones have been removed and the only thing left in the way of a cemetary is a miniscule family plot surrounded by fencing. Well, not even fencing. Just a few raised bars and posts. At any rate, in all the time I've spent there, I've never had ANY paranormal experiences, nor have I heard any stories of ghost lights being seen there. I do, however, have a story to share. About 10-12 years ago a friend of mine was an officer with the Sikeston police and he was called to N Ingram at Hart's cemetary on a "request for an officer." When he got there, he spoke to a man and woman (adults) who said they were returning home (this was late at night, around 11pm-12am) and they saw an elderly gentleman crossing the road in front of them. He seemed to be in some kind of distress so the couple decided to get out and help him. He ignored their calls to get his attention and kept walking in to Hart's cemetary. The man followed the older one through the cemetary, continuously calling after him, to no avail. The elderly man crossed a tree line into an area commonly referred to as "7 Sisters", an all sand ATV track. The younger man was no more than 10 feet behind the older, but when he followed through the tree line, the older man had completely disappeared. The area on the other side of the trees was barren and completely open, and nothing but sand. The man looked everywhere for the other, but found nothing. Not even footprints in the sand, anywhere. After a few minutes of fruitless searching, the man and his wife returned to their vehicle and called the police to report the incident. My friend said the couple was visibly shaken when he got there. Nothing/no one was ever found. Ok, well, just thought I'd pass along this information. Thanks for the website, it's cool. I have lived in Sikeston my whole life until now. I have been to cemetary, nothing happened there. There is a story about the blue baby that was suppose to haunt the area. Do not remember the story.. the only thing that I know that happened there was a couple of kids died in a car crash there. 2 boys and a girl who was rumored to be pregnate. I do not remember the year but I know they were a couple years ahead of me in school so I think it was 95 ot 94..if this helps any... AG I stumbled onto your site doing some searching after doing some house hunting. Long story short, one of the houses we were shown (In Cape Girardeau MO) had a very strong presence in it's basement and while we were looking at the back yard, the back door was shut and we were locked out. Just an accident right? Well, did I mention we were DEADBOLTED out, no way possible that we accidentally did it to ourselves. Needless to say, we are not interested in making an offer on that house. Anyway, the reason I am writing is that I found Hart's Cemetary listed in Sikeston, where I grew up. It is also known locally as "The Blue Baby" due to an old myth about a dead baby etc... Please note that while that story is listed on here, it had been already called "Blue Baby" from as long as I can remember. There was a fatal car crash involving some teenagers there in the early 90's (several years after my following story) but no one was reported pregnant in the media. It was a drunken driving incident. But onto my Hart's cemetary story... Summer of 1987 or 88, my friends and I cooked up a plan to scare another friend. I was dropped off at the cemetary, wearing the obligatory hockey mask etc... And was to hide in the bushes (the area was a bit more bushy then than it is currently) and then to pop out and scare them after the car got back. I never really got an answer the why to this , but it took them around an hour and 15 minutes to get back, mostly I am assuming to see if I could stay out there that long, and then we did the whole "boo" thing. While they were gone though is that most of my time out there, which is possibly close to a record of time spent at the location alone at night, it that I got a very bad bad feeling the entire time. I am in fact fairly surprised that I did stay out there that long before just walking back to town. I did notice a weird drop in temperature and was feeling that I was being watched the entire time. I didn't spend much of the time there actually next to the cemetary markers, but hanging right near the road, only hiding when cars went by, as to not ruin our little joke. I did not see any apparitions or lights etc... but it was very, very creepy. A large portion of this is probably due to being in a spooky, locally "known" haunted cemetary alone at night. But having felt similar feelings in unrelated circumstances, I would have to say that I believe something is there. Just throwing in my 2 cents since I have been there. JW Page Back Page Two |
