| GHOSTS & HAUNTS IN MISSOURI FREUDENBERGER GHOST STORIES |
hello, Just because I hate to see a good ghost story without someone to back it up and I've been telling whatever friends I have had that roomed in Freddy this story as a warning since I left the place I figured I'd pass it on to you. Before I moved into Freddy myself I spoke with a girl who was rooming in 1 east wing, asking if there were any haunted buildings on campus. I expected a generic "there is a girl wandering halls in such and such building." However, she instead gave a personal account. Apparently a number of times she woke up in the middle of the night hearing her desk drawers being opened and closed. Upon sitting up to look all her drawers simultaneously slam shut with no one there to do the slamming. On another occasion she was in her room when she felt as though someone had their frosty hands on her shoulders and was leaning down on her a bit. She shrugged it off and turned to see who it was, but the room was empty. A wise person may have chosen another dorm assignment after this, but I figured my likely-hood of bumping into anything paranormal would be minimal at best. However, after a couple months of living on 1 west wing my roommate asked me if i had anything living in my closet. After laughing at him I said no, and asked why he would ask. He told me that he had heard bumping from the closet on multiple occasions. There was nothing in there living or otherwise that would have caused a noise, and i disregarded it until i heard bumping from the closet myself a few times. I opened it and it was empty each time. Another night as we were falling asleep we heard the garbage in our trash cans russling (these rooms are 15 X15 boxes with two of everything which we kept on opposite sides of the room). After a few seconds of the noise my roommate whispered "dude, is that you." "no...u?" "no." Then both garbage cans fell on their sides, spilling their contents on the floor simultaneously. At which point we both, on our respective beds, decided to cover our heads, face the our wall and pray for sleep to come quickly. When we awoke in the morning the garbage was back in their cans and sitting upright. By spring semester we had gotten used enough to the random displacement of objects, small noises and whatnot we missed them when they weren't there. We began to call the cause of the disturbances "Peeves" after Peeves the poltergeist in the harry potter books. Never once did we see anything, but i thought that may have been due in part to my saying aloud one day after setting down a book on my desk and going to the bathroom to return to find it at the head of my bed "as long as we don't see you, we don't care what you do." The only time we saw anything in broad daylight, when the excuse of neighbors moving about or being half asleep wasn't a possible explanation, was one day while we were watching cartoon network. The laptop i had at the time was old and a pain to turn on on the best of days. However, as we watched it turned itself on, went through the login process (which generally requires me typing a password which was entered on its own with no keys typed) and got to the desktop. My roommate and i decided that if word opened up and a message began to write itself then that would be a bit more that we could handle. The randomness went on until i left for summer and when i came back to the same room for the next year disturbances were almost nil. However, i did hear rumor of them happening on other floors. Seems our ghastly tenant just got bored hanging out in one spot. As far as other dorms on campus, Woods is home to the spector of a baby. Apparently not more than a decade ago the body of a newborn baby was found in a garbage can in one of the bathrooms. Every year since then you hear multiple reports of baby crying without any source. Feel free to take from all that what you will. I didn't want to leave anything out. D Springfield, MO. I am sure that someone has told the story of the dead bride. I have been gone from college for about five years, and have already forgotten the park that she is in, but it is just south of SMS. Stories that I have heard say that a bride and her husband had been married and were going over the bridge in this park. It is an old stone bridge. The carriage overturned, and the bride was killed. Her spirit still lingers. I was shocked the first time I saw it, but it truly looked like a bride. I showed my parents, and even they saw something. Maybe it is a trick of light, but it sure gave me the chills!!!! I also was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, and weird things happened there when not a lot of people were around. Large compostite pictures would sound like they were crashng to the floor on the top floor, but nothing would be wrong when you checked. Footsteps walking when no one was in the house and doors slamming happened quite often also. Probably nothing, but who knows? I never lived in Freddy, but I had lots of friends that weird occurances.
