Ghosts & Haunts In Missouri.  Felix's Grave Stories page 2
Well I drove there and its really strange because I was the one driving but I have no idea how we got there, I couldn't get back if I had  to. Anyway, I had never heard anything about this place at all, except that my friend bobby said we should go there for Halloween cause it was kind of scary and usually things don't scare me and I don't buy into all that. Well now I do. Just driving up to where the road stops was enough, I was completely freaked out and so was my roommate she was sobbing, I was crying and bobby just had a strange look on his face. It seemed like we could see something moving on the side of the road but couldn't tell what it was. I know it wasn't an animal or anything because having grown up in the country I am quite used to animal noises in the woods, there is no way that I could have been that scared of that. Then we decided to leave and the truck turned itself off. Its only 6months old and never had any problems before or since. But it turned off and wouldn't start when it did start the headlights were really dim and didn't brighten up until we got back to the main road. J

I'm St. Joe born and raised although I don't live there now.....I'm also a freelance writer and historian. To the best of my knowledge, the indigent were buried at "The Poor House" which later became Green Acres, a semi-nursing home for the elderly with little or no money. Don't know if it's still there - I grew up in the 60's and 70's. My uncle lived at the top of Huntoon Road in those days. The story I've heard (which I recently verified through my bro who still lives in St. Joe) is that Felix's grave was part of a family plot and that Felix was reported to be some cranky old man. I don't know much more than that and neither did he. He did say, though, that on his visits there back in high school that going to Felix's grave was more of an excuse to party hearty than research the paranormal. I know of many other places in St. Joe where spooky things have and do happen than Felix's grave!!! L

My cousin is a local historian in St. Jo.  I wrote to him trying to get more info on Felix's Grave.  He told me that the graveyard at the conservation is the old "Potter's Grave" where the indigent were buried.  He also told me that graves have been added since I was there of course. When I lived there, I was under the impression that it more like a family plot.  It seemed very small. L

I've been there several times, in the day and the night. I never saw anything weird, beyond the area being a little desolate and sad. Felix's grave is off Huntoon Road in the Sun Bridge Conservation Area in North End. In 1998 I was an editor at the Griffon News out at Missouri Western. We did a special Halloween issue on ghost stories and legends of St. Joseph, and Felix's grave was one of the biggies. I will dig out all that research if anyone's interested, but from memory the story of Felix's grave is tied to the area below it -- the old caves along Waterworks Road. During the big Satanism hullabaloos of the 70's and 80's there were a lot of folks out there in the woods messing around and partying. It seems the place got a reputation from some quasi-Satanic graffiti and the desecration of the graveyard on the cliff above. I'll go dig up that research and share. Follow up story on next page. Sept. 26, 2006, My wife and I took our dogs for a walk at the sunbridge conservation area for an hour or so. My wife decided she wanted to do some history on the felix-liliger cemetery. We tied the dogs up at the enterance to the cemetery and we entered the cemetery so she could look at some of the head stones to get names, date of birth, and death dates. we found 11 head stones all with the name of liliger, lynch, and worthwine. None of the head stones had the name Felix.  While we were in the cemetery getting the info we need our dogs went nuts barking like they were trying to tell us to get out . My Lab finally settled down once we got out of the cemetery. We walked to the observation deck that the dept. of conservation built. On the way to the deck I heard my name called faintly twice, my wife heard a noise like someone had just exheld over her right shoulder. My wife and I are into the haunted history of ST. Joseph, missouri. I have lived here most of my life and I have been to the felix-liliger cemetery numerous times and this is the first time I have experenced something like that . The voice I heard sounded like a guys voice but it wasn't like it was meant to scare me. It was like the voice just wanted me to know that they knew I was there and it was ok for us to be there. As we walked back to our car my wife stopped at the cemetery entrance and she had a feeling come over her telling her not to leave just yet. My wife wrote down all the names and dates we could find and are going to research the history of the Liliger Family. I will post more info when I find some.  Thanks D
