| Ghosts & Haunts In Missouri Emmaus Homes Stories In St. Charles there is an OLD OLD OLD place called, Emmaus Homes on Randolph St.. My mother works there and she has worked there for over 20 years. She tells me that some of the building is shut down due to a few ghost walking around. My mother has told me that when you drive by late at night when no one is there you can see in the attic lights flashing on and off. No one really goes up in the attic that much anymore. I went up there one day with my mom and my 2 other friends. It was very cold and they have locks on the door. It is said that some people have seen a guy walking around in the attic. This man's name is Mr. Morton. Mr. Morton was the owner of Emmaus Homes. There is also a house right outside in the back of the Emmaus where Mr. Morton and his wife lived at, their house is closed down and no one goes in it. It is also said that you can sometimes hear a rocking chair and see her sitting in it. Also it is said that they are not harmful that they just watch over the building. C I was a Nurse at the Emmaus Home in Saint Charles, Mo. From 1985-1989 and heard and saw some strange things . I worked the midnight shift. From a distance I have seen the lights on the third floor of the main building going on then off. The third floor was unoccupied and most everyone was afraid to go up there. The Merten building, which was named after the benefactor, Mr. Merten From Quincy, Ill.His generosity built the Merten Building back in the 1930s. The Merten Building is off the day room directly behind the main building. The main building was finished in 1904 by the same architect that built Union Station in downtown St.Louis, Mo. On more than one occasion have I entered The Merten Building to hear foot steps coming from the third floor and to see the florescent lights moving from stomping up on the third floor. At this time I had a key to the third floor which was pad locked, there was only one way in and one way out of this area. I searched the third floor on more than one occasion after hearing foot steeps etc. AND NEVER FOUND A SOUL. A Terrible chill would set in and I would have to get off the third floor. Only to immediately hear footsteps again coming from the same area. On one occasion I was called to Merten East A Patient was Up set And the Direct Service Providers couldn't calm her. When the patient saw me, she got behind the DSP AND said "you shouldn't do that, you scared me, you shouldn't do that. When the patient calmed she said she had seen me sitting In the Rocking chair next to her bed, She went on to say I was looking at her shaking my head from side to side. In fact I had been in the nursing office for some 2 + hours doing paper work with another nurse with me! Also Mr. Mertens Portrait is hung in the hall way of the Merten building. More Than one employee has called me in the middle of the night to report a gentleman with a hat and long overcoat walking through Merten. Again I never found a soul.
