Doling Cave Stories

The old Fox Theater in Springfield, Mo. is listed in the Shady Oak Cine, but it closed down in 1976. It opened in 1916, and was built on top of an entrance to the Doling Cave that I was reading about on your site. It was in the northeast corner of the square, and I think it was a bank before it became a theater. The bank vault is in the basement, and was set inside the cave opening, and sealed around.  My brother, and I used to go to the picture show there when we were kids in the late 50's & 60's. My Mother worked next door at J.C. Penney's, and sometimes we would go to the show, and meet my Mother after work, and she would take us home.
I never experienced anything paranormal there, but I was just a kid, and there was always a lot of people around when I was there, but My Brother or I  wouldn't go upstairs to the balcony, because it was tooooo creepy up there. In fact they used to keep it roped off most of the time so no one could get up there.
The building is now the State Welfare Office, and it is listed as one of the most haunted places in Springfield.
As was in your article about the Doling Cave (the entrance to the cave is in Doling Park) it was part of the underground railroad, and the tunnels of the cave runs all under north Springfield, and most of the buildings that are built on top of the cave are listed in haunter places in Spfd.(the old court house, central high school, The Church across from central high, welfare office on the square, and several others). Some of these places are listed on your web site, and others.
There were several murders, and torturing going on down there during the slave era, and a lot of underworld activity.
I've always wondered what was lurking in the balcony of the old Fox Theater.
