| Ghosts & Haunts In Missouri Cry Baby Hollow Stories page 2 My cousins were visiting from Kansas and the subject of haunting came up and being in Crocker we decided to go to cry baby hollow. Driving down the road we kept seeing animals in the middle of the road....two dogs and a cat all at different times. Of coarse we were jumpy and four teenagers after telling ghost stories for hours get pretty riled up. Im from Waynesville and have had friends go down there after parties and have had their cars cut out and scratched up and have seen lights and heard the screams. Of coarse they have wild imaginations and I must remind you they had been partying. But that night we found the road after begging for directions from the adults, we found a low part in the road and parked. There was no moon and we cut off the lights. My cousin Anthony and I were trying to be logical and tried to "make sense" of what all the other two said. We got out of the car and walked down the road about 5 ft. and just listened. The stories I have heard include a woman driving down the road and ran out of gas at night and her baby was asleep and decided to crack the window and go look for gas. When she came back the widow was broken and blood was streaked down the car and the baby gone. The woman went searching for the child when she heard screams and was never seen again. Supposedly a mountain lion heard the baby crying and broke the window and snatched the baby. Also I heard this location is an "opening from hell" and between the hours of 12pm something to 1am something you will see lights hear screams and experience other occurrences. We went down to this location around ten though. While standing in the road my cousin and I heard something in the woods and walked closer to our vehicle. We stood at the back end and what ever was in the woods now seemed to be in the trees above. Im more of a scientific evidence person so I figured there were birds moving around or some other little critter but something fell from the trees and sounded as though it was running toward the vehicle. We jumped in and waited a little and began to hear faint screams. I kept saying they were coyotes and tried to keep everyone silent so I could tell for sure. It kept getting louder and my cousin (even though older) was close to tears and wanted to just go home. So we left. It may have just been animals and the elders trying to give us a good scare but just to let you know its a blast and should make a visit, but please do be aware there are some crazy and dangerous people that live down around there. JN For Crybaby Hollow you get on the road going from Waynesville to Crocker and you drive till you see DD, get on DD and drive to the end of the road it will end about 15 min down the road according to how fast you drive. At the end of the road it T's and terns onto a dirt road. Go right at the T, the first dip in the road is the hollow. You need to get out of the car and talk off the road to reach it but that's where it is. (the dip is a big dip you won't miss it unless you are a speed demon.) have fun. I DID. D My father was told of the Cry baby stories when he was young by my uncle. My uncle would go there with his friends when it was a vacant wood area. He said that when they would brave stopping the car, he would hear foot steps and when they moved the car the steps tried to catch up with the car. In the old creek My uncle told my father a drunk red neck would lay in it and shoot cars. My uncle also would put a life size detail doll in the creek to scare his friends. I to heared all the stories, one was the trail of tears were Indians were split up in a storm. Then one were a Widow and her baby were in the back room when a knock on the door came. She answered to see no one. Later she returned to the room to see the baby gone which drove her mad. After hearing the stories I went with my dad after a party was over in Crocker I went to. I was unimpressed. There were houses all around and by the creek were a few trailers and a farm. A few guys with beers were talking by a truck and waved at us. The place was built up and at the end was a big field to the river but a gate blocked it. We did see a black snake, but we went at sunset. It did become dark and I did see fireflies with blue lights if that is an orb. Long story short it is all now built up, but it is a bit creepy. I live in Laclede county so I guess I will return again.
