It's supposed to be where a mother and her child were...on a hiking trip, in a
car, pushed off the hillside in the car, pushed off the hiking trail by the
husband, etc., etc.-I've heard several variations; pick one.  Anyway, the
mother lost her child and could hear it crying but could not find it.  She went
to get help (I for one would like to know where-there's nothing around it) and
they all went looking for the baby to no avail.  Eventually the mother
disappeared as well and neither were ever located.  That is the legend.
If you go there at night, you're supposed to hear the baby crying.  It gets
louder and louder until it sounds like it's in the car with you, or so I've heard.
The mother is supposed to materialize as well, but I've only heard of that once.
It's off DD highway outside of Crocker (towards Waynesville)-follow to the
end and take a right on the gravel.  It's approximately 2 to 4 miles down at the
bottom of a ravine (hollow) on a low water bridge.  No one else has mentioned
this so I probably should: precaution should be taken if you go because
whomever owns the land near the site does not like visitors.  There are times
the entire area has smelled strongly of ammonia-you can guess why.  An
accomplice of mine and I were there one night and someone came out of the
trailer across the field with a gun running towards us.  Needless to say, with
no artillery, we left.  If you go, keep your eyes open and have a fast car to
get the hell out if needed (my 442 worked well)

Hi there, I keep seeing messages where people are discussing cry baby hollow
and I have held back from saying much but I do want to comment.
I lived in Pulaski county over 25 years ago and pursued a variety of haunted
locations. Cry baby hollow was one that most people new about.  The better
ones however are lesser known.  For proper investigation the true story needs
to be known so as to understand any events that may occur at a site.
I have heard many versions about Cry Baby Holler on this site but few seem
to have most of the facts.
There once was a house in the area where Cry Baby Hollow is and large
ceder trees in the area, which was common around old homesteads. The story
itself is very old, so any mention of cars, hiking, cell phones and the like are
not very accurate.  The house is no longer there and was torn down so the site
is not what it once was.
The Story is that a toddler wandered away from the house and became lost.
A storm was in the area making it difficult to search and find the child. The
child could be heard but because of the weather it was difficult to locate. The
mother refused to give up her search and eventually succumbed to the elements
as did the child.
Supposedly at night you can sometimes hear the child crying and see an image
of the mother searching.
Mostly the spot was best used for parking with your girlfriend and telling her
the story so that she would move closer to you in the dark.
Now the only thing that haunts the area are operators of the modern day
moonshine "meth" and they should be considered dangerous.
