| Ghosts & Haunts In Missouri Cheney Hall Stories page 2 Below is a copy of a post I made on CapeScene.com on a thread relating to ghosts. I found the link to your site on that thread, so I thought I'd send you my story. This occurred at in a third-floor room at Cheney Hall on the Southeast Missouri State University Campus in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Here is a copy of my unedited post: So it was sometime in the fall of '98 and I was dating this girl who lived on campus shelived on the third floor on the northern side. Back in '98 the parking lot that is behind Cheney Hall now was a tennis court back then, and it had these lights that were on all the time, and would shine through her window at night. So one weekend, I'm spending the night. Suddenly I wake up and see her roomie (or what I thought was the roomie) standing over the bed on my girlfriends side looking at us. Now, I couldn't see her face as the light coming through the window practically made her a silhouette, but I could see sorta wavy, dark hair, etc. Her roomie did have the same hair, and the point is that there was nothing at this point in the experience that told me that the person standing over the bed was anyone other than her roomie, who must have come home early. So, I muttered a "sorry" as she kept looking at us (my girlfriend never even woke up) and I started to get up and get dressed so I could leave. The girl turned away and started back to the roomie's bed next to the window. I had just gotten my shoes on, and I was leaning over to give my girlfriend a kiss goodbye when I looked over at her roomie's bed. The room was entirely empty except for the both of us. There was no way anyone could have left the room without me noticing as I was getting dressed right in front of the door. At this point, I figured I must have still been dreaming a little when I woke up. Anyway, later on that fall my girlfriend had what we later came to call her little "episode" and she attempted to slit her wrists. She was taken to the hospital and later came out fine, but the University wouldn't allow her to live in Cheney anymore so she moved into her own little apartment. Fast-forward about 3 years, she and I have long-since broken up and I'm at a small party and we're playing drinking games. Somehow, the subject of ghosts comes up and one of the girls mentions CheneyHall. Of course, I want to know all about it and she tells me about a girl who committed suicide in one of the third-floor rooms in Cheney Hall. After repeated complaints each year from tenants of that room, they turned it into a storage closet. So we go up on campus and believe it or not... allthe BS aside, her old room on the third floor-north of Cheney Hall was now a storage room. That last part was 4 years ago, and I haven't had an opportunity, or reason to visit Cheney Hall again, so I have no idea if that room is in use again, or not. I am not so dense as to not realize that this has all of the trademarks of the "traditional" ghost story, complete with the "revelation" of what "really" happened not being made until much later. But, what can I say? This is how it happened... I could have just been dreaming a little after I woke up. That would have been some powerfully realistic dream, but it's possible. Then again... So there you go. Hope it's of some use to you. Thanks for taking the time to read it.
