Ghosts & Haunts In Missouri
Reports of ghosts from Calvary Cemetery

Interesting web-site to say the least.  I am a native son of Saint Louis, born and raised in North Saint Louis County, Glasgow Village to be exact.  I have traveled extensively in Missouri and across the world on various assignments with the US Army.
I am a retired investigator with an extensive background in investigative methods and approaches to documenting incidents and communicating those impressions and happenings.
Approximately mid-1977, I was returning home from a rather lengthy working weekend.  I was in the US Army Reserves and had just finished a drill weekend and several days of on-site security contract reviews.  I was a senior supervisor of a security company known as Imperial Security, which had been owned and operated by a close friend.  I later returned to active duty with the US Army in Jan 1978 and completed a 22 year investigative career in Jan 1995.
On the day I am describing, I had driven North on Kingshighway, turned left passed the 6th District Police Station and made the right turn onto Calvary Avenue and was headed downhill towards Broadway.  It was very early in the morning, about 0115 hours, and the trees were fully leafed out with the branches arching out over the roadway from either side.  This causes the streetlights to be seen only in patches along the road.
Something or someone, caused a bright light to shine from the left side of the road through the fence on the upper part of the avenue just before the road starts its descent towards Broadway.  To the left side, there is an extremely unusual headstone set back into the cemetery approximately 150 feet from the wrought iron fence, which depicts an angel lying over the headstone from the back, seeming to grieve in great despair over the grave.  The angel's face is turned to the left away from the road and is normally buried in her arms.
On this particular morning, after seeing this light flash out from the left side of the fence, I slowed down to about 15 MPH and turned my head to the left.  Some motion caught my eye and as I was looking at this headstone, the angel lifted her head and stared straight at me.  I don't actually remember stopping in the road, but the eye contact seemed to be for an extended period of time.  She seemed to raise her right arm and hand in a side-to side motion and broke our eye contact.  I must have stopped my car at some point, because I then pressed on the accelerator and drove away very slowly but I continued to watch the angel on the headstone through my left side-view mirror.  As I watched, as she placed her head back onto her arms and resumed her previous position.
I have driven through this road many times since that night at various times year, varying the time of the day and night, hoping to re-create that experience, but I have not been able to do so.  I have been tempted to go into the cemetery during the day when it is open and find the name on the stone, but I never have been able to do so.
I am now living in Virginia and when I visit my family in Missouri, I never seem to have enough time to conduct this visit.
I am turning my interests towards this investigative area of paranormal activity and have toured some of the civil war battlefields in the Northern Virginia area where I now live.  I have reviewed, sometimes in a wincing fashion, some of the haphazard approaches some "investigators" into the paranormal have undertaken their inquiries and their later reporting.
Since I am originally from Saint Louis, I always like to watch and see what is happening in my hometown.  Your web-site drove me back down in time to this incident on the avenue.  I haven't ever shared this event with anyone before except my wife, daughter and father.  As you are certainly aware, in some circles, voicing stories about strange events or happenings can cause certain stigma to be attached to your name and reputation.

Hello, I just read the story submitted by your reader who saw the headstone of the angel move. I regularly go to several local cemeteries to sketch and take photos (artist by trade) and have been drawn to that particular headstone. Another place with lots of energy is also by that road where several priests are buried.
